Before comparing card sleeve sizes, check what the measurements describe. One product may label the card size it fits, while another guide separately lists the sleeve’s outside dimensions. Similar names or numbers do not establish identical fit.
Match the exact game or card edition, the stated card-fit range and the sleeve SKU. For double-sleeving, check the compatibility of the inner and outer sleeves separately.
Read the column heading, not just the number
| Manufacturer record | Label or outer dimension | Stated card fit | Why the distinction matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sleeve Kings SKS-8808 | Page title uses 57 × 89 mm | Page describes fit for 57.5 × 89 mm cards | The title should not be assumed to state the sleeve’s exterior |
| Gamegenic Standard American, in its sleeve guide | Sleeve size 59 × 91 mm | Cards up to 57 × 89 mm | The guide explicitly separates sleeve and card measurements |
These records come from Sleeve Kings SKS-8808 and Gamegenic’s sleeve-size guide . The latter is a historical guide checked October 11, 2026; verify the actual current pack rather than assuming the PDF establishes availability or unchanged packaging.
Sleeve Kings’ sizing guide , published August 17, 2026, emphasizes the game or edition, card measurements and corresponding sleeve identity. A size name such as “Standard American” is a useful search aid, but it does not remove the need to read the manufacturer’s stated dimensions.
Why a two-millimeter difference is not a fit guarantee
In an idealized flat drawing, a 59 mm outer width minus a 57 mm card width leaves a 2 mm overall difference, or 1 mm on each side if centered. That is only geometry. Sleeve welds, material thickness and construction mean the entire outer width is not necessarily usable internal clearance.
Do not use that subtraction to certify a real fit, or compare another maker’s card-fit label as if it were an outer measurement. Where a sample-fit check is available and permitted, it supplies information that the simplified calculation cannot.
Count the cards as well as the dimensions
For a hypothetical set of 135 cards and packs containing 100 suitable sleeves:
135 ÷ 100 = 1.35 packs, rounded up to 2 packs
Two packs provide 200 sleeves, leaving 65 unused for that set. This is a pack-count example, not a verified inventory for a particular game. Include expansions and separate card sizes in your own count; one compatible size cannot be assumed to cover every component.
Keep a sleeve-fit record
Record the game and edition, card dimensions, required quantity, exact sleeve SKU, stated card fit, separately stated outer size and pack count. If the product page and title disagree, resolve that discrepancy before ordering. Also record whether the plan involves one sleeve or a specified inner-and-outer combination.
The collector sleeve guide addresses the wider protection choice. Resolve exact dimensions and quantities first, then compare the other stated features.
Method and limits
We reconciled maker records and calculated illustrative clearance and pack counts. We did not sleeve, shuffle or durability-test cards, and this guide establishes no tournament approval. Use the current SKU’s fit information to settle the dimension question before evaluating thickness, finish or handling preferences.
